Dan Close obtained his doctorate through the development of a novel imaging technology that enabled autonomous bioluminescent production in human and animal cells via the coordinated expression of a synthetic luciferase/luciferin genetic pathway. Upon completion of his graduate studies, Dr. Close worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Joint Institute for Biological Sciences, a partnership between The University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, before accepting a position as a Eugene P. Wigner Fellow in the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Following the completion of his Fellowship appointment, Dr. Close continued his work as a Research Staff Scientist in the laboratory’s Biosciences Division until stepping down to become the chief scientific officer of 490 BioTech.
