Susan Cantrell joined AMCP as Chief Executive Officer in 2016. In this role, she leads the organization in fulfilling its mission of increasing patient access to affordable medicines, improving health outcomes, and ensuring the wise use of health care dollars. Since joining AMCP, she has worked to advance AMCP’s policies to address rising health care costs and facilitate the shift toward paying for value in health care.
Before joining AMCP, Susan was Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Americas for the Drug Information Association (DIA), a global society of professionals involved in the development and life-cycle management of pharmaceuticals and other medical products. She previously was Vice President of Resources Development at the American Society of Health‐System Pharmacists (ASHP). She began her career in health care as a pharmacist in hospital and home care practices.
Susan is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy and she received her Certificate in Public Health from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Public Health. She completed an ASHP-accredited residency in hospital pharmacy at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. A registered pharmacist and former hospital, home care, and specialty pharmacy administrator, she is certified by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) as a Certified Association Executive (CAE). She is a frequent speaker on health policy issues and topics related to quality and value in health care and is currently chair of the Pharmacy Health IT Collaborative and a member of the board of directors of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance.
